There are lots of these android-based radios listed. I've tested 5 of them so far. This is the best one I've looked at. Not only is it the only one I've seen that has an actual cooling fan on the board behind the screen, it's the only one where I've gotten everything actually working. Partly because I think it's actually a better product, and partly because the manufacturer actually provides responsive tech support.

All of these radios are a mess of cables with extra connections and wires that won't actually be hooked up. The documentation that ships with the unit is not that great (even though it's better than many others) Be prepared for confusion. But if you get stuck, the support people were able to respond with descriptive answers, pictures, and they pointed me a helpful video link. If you've already done one of these before, the video may not be all that helpful, but if it's your first one, definitely watch it. Also note that there are at least three different variations of the console trim and harness setups within the 2012-2018 model years.

I was able to get the CarPlay working immediately. It auto-launches when you connect your iPhone. Not all of them do that. I was able to get the steering wheel buttons to work for volume and next-track/restart-track. The OEM rear-view camera is working correctly. Voice controls are working. The Bluetooth connection is stable and the audio is clear without drop-outs.

In summary, there's a lot that could be better with the documentation, but it's so much better than the competing units and the tech support was so helpful that I'm not counting off for it. This is the one I'm leaving in my car permanently.

Following are some additional notes about this type of android-based system in general. These are issues you should be aware of if you're considering one of these radios. They affect ALL of them, so I didn't down-rate this product for them specifically.

All have poor documentation, not only for physical installation but for all the configuration tools and settings in the android-based tablet

The screens have lots of glare. Factory screens are usually recessed and more vertical to help prevent direct sunlight from washing out the display.

Conversely, they give off a ton of light at night. They do get the sensor info from the car telling it when it's dark and the headlights go on, but the "dark mode" screens are still pretty bright. It changes are the color pallets in the apps, not a reduction in backlighting on the screen itself.

No multi-touch in Apple CarPlay. You can't pinch-to-zoom in maps

You have to use the wired external microphone provided to have usable phone support while driving. Internal mics work ok while you're testing in the driveway, but as soon as you start driving, they pick up all the noise and vibration in the dash and console and no one can hear you.

Best Upgrade for a Ford Focus – Feels Like a New Car!

Absolutely amazing upgrade! Installed this Tesla-style screen on a 2016 Ford Focus and it completely transformed the interior. The screen is large, clear, and gives the car a super modern, high-end feel.

Installation was straightforward and mostly plug-and-play. Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and navigation all work perfectly, and the touchscreen is smooth and responsive.
